Avengers

While the three previous Marvel One Shots (their fancy name for the short films set within the Marvel Movieverse) have been good, they all seemed a little bit of wasted opportunities. Each starred Clark Gregg as the now fan-favourite S.H.I.E.L.D. agent (his sudden popularity surely due to the fact he carked it in THE AVENGERS; didn’t hear much Coulson love before that), and covered very little ground. Given the fact that the Studio has access to over 8000 characters, it was initially thought that these mini-movies would make a great platform for field-testing lesser-known characters instead of risking $200m on their own feature.

ITEM 47 is the fourth One Shot in the series, and while it doesn’t achieve the above, it’s also a step in a very interesting direction. Running at a much meatier 12 minutes, the film takes place in the aftermath of Loki’s invasion on New York, and tells the tale of two down on their luck lovers who find a discarded Chitauri raygun. They decide to take the weapon and use it to turn their life around by using it to rob a bank or two. Not the smartest idea considering that two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are hot on the trail of the missing item.

Another noteworthy detail is that Marvel Studios have drafted in the excellent Lizzy Caplan (TRUE BLOOD, CLOVERFIELD) to star as one half of the couple, while Jesse Bradford (CLOCKSTOPPERS!) plays her beau. Here's the first pic courtesy of Entertainment Weekly...

Maximiliano Hernandez reprises his role as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jasper Sitwell, who's character appeared both in THE AVENGERS and THOR, and is this time partnered with LOST’s Man In Black himself, Titus Welliver.

The film will premiere at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con. For all of us who aren’t lucky enough to be attending, it will be featured on THE AVENGERS DVD/Blu-ray hitting September 17th. It might also pop up online at some point, so watch this space...
