British director Neil Marshall has had some frustrating false starts over the last few years. Films like BURST 3D and HELLFEST have so far failed to come together. When we reported recently that Marshall would direct THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER, I wasn’t sure it would ever come to pass but it seems the film is further along than we thought.
Based on part of the Bram Stoker novel, the film concerns the crew of the ship taking Count Dracula from Transylvania to London and the fact that they start to die horribly during the doomed voyage. Ben Kingsley is still attached to play the ship’s captain and now Viggo Mortensen is in talks to play his first mate Henry Clemens. Noomi Rapace was previously involved in the film but it’s unclear if this is still the case.
Marshall is one of the most talented British directors out there and hasn’t had the breaks that many have had in their careers. This material sounds like its right up his alleyway so hopefully this doesn’t all fall apart and is a triumphant return to screens for the man.
