Movie News: Stephen King’s IT To Become Two Movies From Warner Bros

Written by Chris Holt

Movie News

It

Whilst it’s all gone quiet on the news front with regards to THE STAND trilogy and THE DARK TOWER, out of the blue comes word about another celebrated Stephen King novel. IT was previously turned into a television mini-series in 1990 with a creepy iconic performance from Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown. The series was okay, it lacked a certain something and sadly felt made for television and lacked a satisfactory finale despite probably Curry’s second most recognisable performance.

Well after being whispered about a few years ago things have picked up and Warner Bros are producing two films based on the novel to be directed by SIN NOMBRE and JANE EYRE director Cary Fukunaga. The novel is one of those King tomes that runs over 600 pages so understandably a lot was left out of the mini-series which should be done justice in two films. Fukunaga is writing the screenplay with Chase Palmer who wrote a draft of the previously aborted DUNE reboot.

There are probably enough people around who remember the mini-series fondly enough to make this a solid hit but we will see, it’s still a risky proposition for a two film commitment and recently didn’t work out for AKIRA. The film will be produced by Roy lee, Dan Lin, David Katzenberg and writer Seth Grahame-Smith.
