Movie News: Don Murphy Nabs Slate of Japanese Sci-fi Novels

Written by Chris Holt

Movie News

Lords of Sands and Time

TRANSFORMERS and SHOOT 'EM UP producer and Quentin Tarantino’s arch nemesis Don Murphy has inked a deal with Japanese advertising agency Dentsu and Hayakawa Publishing Corp for live action adaptations of their science fiction novels.

The first one in development is the adaptation of Issui Ogawa’s THE LORD OF THE SANDS AND TIME which was published in 2007. This is a time travel cum war story which takes place in the 26th century after humanity has been wiped out by aliens and a human is sent to the past to try and stop the extinction.

In addition Michael Davis (SHOOT 'EM UP, MONSTER MAN) will direct and produce MARDOCK SCRAMBLE based on a novel by Tow Ubukata. An animated version of this book was already a huge hit in Japan and the bugnuts tale concerns a prostitute who gains the ability to control electronic devices and teams with a shape-shifting mouse to take revenge on the Yakuza boss who nearly killed her... ok.
