Movie News: Eli Roth Returns To Director’s Chair For THE GREEN INFERNO

Written by Chris Holt

Movie News

It’s hard to remember now but cast your mind back to the middle of the last decade when Eli Roth was touted as ‘the saviour of horror’ after CABIN FEVER and HOSTEL. He then followed it up with the lacklustre but slick HOSTEL PART TWO and was so hurt by the critical backlash that he stayed away from directing and instead became known for an iconic role in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS and dating Peaches Geldof.

Currently completing an acting role in Nicolas Lopez’s AFTERSHOCK, Roth has now decided to climb back into the director chair with THE GREEN INFERNO from a screenplay he co-wrote with Guillermo Amoedo, which was inspired by his time in Chile filming the aforementioned earthquake flick.

The plot of THE GREEN INFERNO is unknown but some are speculating that it’s a story heavily influenced by CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST so we will see. Roth has also been trying to get the sci-fi horror film ENDANGERED SPECIES off the ground (but that project seems to have stalled), and will produce the gothic horror series HEMLOCK GROVE for Netflix.

Roth is hoping that THE GREEN INFERNO will begin filming on location in Chile and Peru this Autumn.
