With his post DESCENT projects DOOMSDAY and CENTURIAN struggling to find a large audience, it’s been a bit quiet on the Neil Marshall front lately. (Ok, so the director recently helmed an episode of HBO’s GAME OF THRONES, but surely that’s still a bit of a step backwards for such a celebrated filmmaker.) Looks like Marshall might be on his way back though, with his name the latest to be attached to THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER. The script has been knocking around Hollywood for eons, and spins the tale of a merchant vessel – The Demeter of the title - and its strange cargo… Dracula himself, who’s cheekily hitching a lift from Transylvania to London.

The movie is based in part on a chapter of Bram Stoker’s DRACULA, and is told from the perspective of the ship’s captain, slowly driven mad over the course of the journey as his crew go missing one-by-one. (It’s a long trip, so what’s a vampire to do for snacks?). In fact by the time the ship crashes on the shores of its destination, The Demeter is empty, save for the dead captain tethered to the wheel.

This is the third Dracula based movie heading our way over the next few years, but one we feel has the most promise given the premise’s unique approach and potential to provide genuine scares.

THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER is written by Bragi Schut (SEASON OF THE WITCH) and will be produced by Millenium Entertainment.
