Movie News

All the way back in June you might remember that we reported on LOST showrunner Damon Lindelof striking a huge deal (then thought to be seven figures) to create a brand new, cross-media sci-fi franchise for Disney, entitled 1952. Plot details were non-existant. But today, almost one year later...

...nobody knows bupkis. Still.

Sorry.

What we do know though (courtesy of Deadline) is that Brad Bird has today signed on to direct. Since Bird has nary set a foot wrong during his long career, producing some of our favourite animated feature films of the last few decades (THE IRON GIANT being a standout, but the less said about the preposterous RATATOUILLE the better. Rats can't pilot humans by just pulling on their hair. Pfft.), and showing great promise in his debut live-action movie MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL, we're confident it's in top hands.

It's interesting that some people are still holding onto the notion that this super secret project could be LOST related in some way. While I wish I could believe the same (I'd love nothing more than to revisit that universe) it's most definitely wishful thinking as Lindelof has stated categorically that while he's proud of the show, he won't be involved with any form of continuation. In fact just the other day he reaffirmed the fact in an interview at Variety's Entertainment & Technology summit, saying that though he's convinced makers ABC will one day revive the property - "I do feel like the world has not seen the end of Lost" - he sadly won't "have any involvement". Bummer.

We'll find out what 1952 is all about... in a few years. Yep, nobody even knows when the damn thing's out!

Meanwhile, we can check out Lindelof's handiwork in a little known film coming out June 1st. It's called PROMETHEUM, or something.
