Movie News: Neil Gaiman’s THE GRAVEYARD BOOK Headed To Screens From Henry Selick

Written by Chris Holt

Movie News

Anyone who has seen Henry Selick’s 2009 adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s CORALINE knows that this is very good news. Neil Gaiman’s THE GRAVEYARD BOOK is a re-telling of THE JUNGLE BOOK except in a graveyard where a young boy whose family was murdered is raised by the ghouls who dwell there. Now Henry Selick has signed on to adapt and direct the film for Disney.

A film version of Gaiman’s award winning book has been in development since 2009 with 1492 Pictures and CJ Entertainment previously attempting to bring it to the screen and Neil Jordan (INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE) attached to direct. That version stalled with Disney now swooping in to pick the film up.

It’s not yet confirmed whether the film will be stop motion animation or live action but considering that Selick’s natural home is with stop motion and the last time he tried live action we got MONKEYBONE, I would bet he will stick with what he knows best. Before you get all excited however, bear in mind that this script has yet to be written and Selick is currently working on some kind of top secret project for Pixar.
