MGM’s POLTERGEIST reboot has been on the cards for quite some time, but it’s finally got some traction as of today with the news that the mighty Sam Raimi will shepherd the project to screens via his Ghost House label. Raimi has tasked his OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire to draft the new take.
Made in 1982, Tobe Hooper's film has aged exceptionally well, and remains a classic of the genre. Its two sequels on the other hand, were rubbish. (That said, the site of a tequila-worm-vomit-creature climbing out of Craig T. Nelson’s face is probably worth the DVD price alone).
We’re all a little numb to this remake business by now to be honest, the thing that really stings here is the involvement of Raimi, whose considerable talents would surely be better spent elsewhere.
Expect POLTERGEIST to haunt our multiplexes 2014.
