Movie News: Fox Moving Forward On DAREDEVIL Reboot...

Written by Kris Heys

Movie News

It’s been quiet on Fox's DAREDEVIL reboot front for a while now, but seems things are finally moving forward with the announcement that newcomer David James Kelly has been tasked to pen the screenplay.

HARD CANDY and 30 DAYS OF NIGHT director David Slade is still attached to direct the movie, which will reportedly be based on Frank Miller’s acclaimed BORN AGAIN storyline from 1986. In it, alter ego Matt Murdoch is exposed as the titular hero when his heroine addicted ex-girlfriend sells his secrets to fund her habit, resulting in arch nemesis the Kingpin using the information to systematically destroy everybody's favourite blind lawyer/ninja's life.

It’s a great read, but one that doesn’t really owe itself to a re-launching of the brand. And come to think of it, why reboot at all? Sure, Mark Steven Johnson’s 2003 flick wasn’t perfect, but it’s still head and shoulders above a lot of superhero fare that has been produced since. Hell, even spin-off ELEKTRA stomps all over the likes of FANTASTIC FOUR. Why not reboot that? Oh, hang on…

Expect DAREDEVIL to hit sometime 2014. If Fox were smart they’d use this opportunity to do a deal with Marvel Studios and allow their new version to share their movieverse. Something Sony missed a trick on with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.
