Back in 2009 a stop motion animated film was released that managed to be the creepiest film released that year. Based on Neil Gaiman’s book CORALINE was fantastic but didn’t really connect with the mainstream in a big way. The studio behind the film, Laika, haven’t rested on their laurels and have the brilliant looking PARANORMAN on the way later this year.
Laika are now developing a 3D stop motion animated feature called GOBLINS based on the book by Philip Reeve.
GOBLINS tells the story of Skarper, a young goblin who lives in a castle amongst a bunch of constantly bickering goblins. Skarper comes to learn that an epic battle is brewing and prepares himself for a war between giants, tree monsters, trolls, swamp monsters and all manner of mythic beasts. Marc Gustafson who worked on FANTASTIC MR FOX will direct the film. Gustafson is also co-director on the long in development Guillermo Del Toro produced stop motion version of PINOCCHIO.
