Movie News: THE UNPLEASANT PROFESSION OF... Alex Proyas

Written by Kris Heys Wednesday, 11 April 2012

Movie News

Alex Proyas, director of such celebrated genre fare as THE CROW and DARK CITY, has finally plumped for a project that will fill the void left by the recently shelved PARADISE LOST.

THE UNPLEASANT PROFFESION OF JONATHAN HOAG is based on Robert Heinlein’s 1942 novel of the same name, and weaves the sinister tale of its title character hiring the services of a detective team to shadow him during the day – after realizing he has no recollection of what he actually gets up to. We won’t spoil what ‘unpleasantness’ Hoag is revealed to be wrapped up in, but suffice to say there are interested parties determined to stop anybody from finding out.

Given the director’s examination of the paranoid mind in DARK CITY, this sounds like a perfect opportunity for the director to make reclaim his credibility after the poor reception that greeted his 2009 sci-fi flick KNOWING. Which, to be fair, was utter rubbish.

With shooting tentatively scheduled for late 2012, let's hope Proyas has a smoother ride on this than he did on PARADISE LOST. We’ll have more on this as it develops...
