5th Wave*, the first in a trilogy of YA sci-fi novels by Rick Yancey, hasn’t even hit the shelves yet, but that hasn’t stopped Hollywood gobbling up the film rights.

Tobey Maguire’s production company Material Pictures has joined forces with GK Films to adapt the story, which tells the tale of a teenage girl on a journey to find her missing brother during an alien invasion. Her companion on this quest is a mysterious young bloke who may or may not be one of the warring bastards himself.

It’s an intriguing premise, but we’ll wait and see how the book turns out before we start marking our diaries.
