Movie News

It may be one of the strangest pitches we’ve heard in a long time, but Lionsgate have announced they’ve acquired the rights to ACTION NO. 1, a film based on the strange events that led actor Nicholas Cage to be deprived of his prized possession – Action Comics #1.

With the first appearances of Superman going for a cool $1,000,000 these days, the book (first published in 1938) was targeted by a group of thieves who nicked it from Cage’s collection back in 2000, before it finally turned up again in a unused storage locker the following year. Why the bandits never cashed it in is a mystery to this day.

The fictionalized account will see the thieves envisioned as a group of fanboys who hatch the devious plot, and is written by RENO 911!’s Robert Ben Garat & Thomas Lennon.

Though he's yet to sign on, with any luck Cage will be playing himself. It would be a perfect opportunity to send up his public persona of being somewhat of an oddball, and could easily spawn a sequel detailing more Cage adventures – like the one where he was driven out of his haunted mansion by supernatural forces angered by his questionable movie choices of late (probably), or the fact that he's now been outed as a vampire

We'll have more on this as it develops...
