Movie News: Edgar Wright vs. THE NIGHT STALKER

Movie News

While last July's news that Disney were developing a feature-length reboot of the '70s TV show THE NIGHT STALKER was greeted with general ambivalence, this latest update is pretty much guaranteed to elevate the project to 'must see' status.

Hollywood know-it-alls Deadline are reporting that the producers, including potential new Kolchak Johnny Depp, have tasked director Edgar Wright (SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD) to head the film. With Wright easily one of the most exciting filmmakers working today, the prospect of his signature energetic shooting style being applied to Kolchak's supernatural-infused mythos is just the shot in the arm the reboot needs. We've seen the subject matter and concept repeated ad nauseam since the show went off the air in 1975, but with Wright on board Disney are guaranteeing audiences will get something fresh. Count us in.

It's not known how Wright's involvement would affect his eagerly-awaited future projects such as his next collaboration with Simon Pegg, THE WORLD'S END, or Marvel Studios' ANT-MAN (which co-writer Joe Cornish insists 'will' be directed by Wright should it make it beyond script stage), but we figure since THE NIGHT STALKER screenplay is yet to even be written, expect a long wait yet.

We'll have more on this as it develops...
