Fourth AVENGERS Movie to "Wrap Everything Up"

We’ve all been expecting big things from next year’s Avengers: Infinity War and its long-confirmed 2019 follow-up for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and now Chris Evans has moved to explain why he agreed to return for that fourth Avengers picture.

If you remember back, the Captain America star was previously only contracted for six movies – three Cap films and then three Avengers efforts – meaning that his involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would’ve come to a halt after next year’s Infinity War.

Explaining why he decided to sign on to return for the still-to-be-titled fourth Avengers movie, Evans told The Telegraph, “I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter. They said they had so many other characters to fit in – Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man – and couldn’t get them all into one movie.”

The ever-popular Evans then added that he was keen to work on the two-movie arc “because it made sense. It’s going to wrap everything up.”

Wrap everything up how, we wonder.

Of course, it’s been long speculated that Evans’ Sentinel of Liberty would be getting killed off in the MCU, with many presuming Cap would bite the bullet in both Avengers: Age of Ultron and then in last year’s stunning Captain America: Civil War. Steve Rogers is still alive and well, though, even if many are speculating that he could end up out of the picture at some point in time in order to have Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes or Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson take on the Captain America moniker – much like the comic book Winter Soldier and Falcon have done at times.

By wrapping things up, Evans could merely mean that the natural narrative of where the MCU’s heroes have been going to this point will hit a resolution – i.e. Thanos will finally step out of the shadows and have his long-awaited battle with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – or it could possibly mean that the arc of the established line-up of the Avengers team has come to an end, or it could also mean a whole host of different things.

Regardless, Evans as Captain America has been phenomenal in all five outings to date (six if you count the hugely enjoyable Thor: The Dark World cameo) and he’s given a whole new boost of popularity to a character who had long grown stale to some comic book fans.

As alluded to by Evans himself, Avengers: Infinity War and its follow-up are set to be huge, crammed pictures that will feature the likes of Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Winter Soldier, The Falcon, Ant-Man, Wasp, the Guardians of the Galaxy team, Doctor Strange, and Brie Larson debuting as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel.

At present, Avengers: Infinity War is set for a global May 4th, 2018 release, with its follow-up to be released on May 3rd, 2019. Anthony and Joe Russo – the pair who directed the mesmerising Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the action-packed Captain America: Civil War – are on directing duties for these two movies, with the films currently shooting back-to-back.
