Carrie Fisher to Appear in STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

With it initially believed that Carrie Fisher would have no presence in Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars: Episode IX following her sad passing last year, now it appears that we may see Fisher’s Leia in that film after all.

It’s been well documented that Carrie had finished shooting all of her scenes for this year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and since then Disney made a statement to say how they would not “digitally recreate” this beloved figure for Episode IX. As such, it was thought that the last time we’d see this iconic character would be The Last Jedi. Seemingly not, though.

Speaking to The New York Daily News, Carrie’s brother Todd has revealed how he and his sister’s daughter, Billie Lourd, have given Disney and Lucasfilm permission to use recent footage of the actress in Episode IX. Todd explained, “Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is you don’t. She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan – when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that’s what’s happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue.”

Just how much of Carrie Fisher as Leia we see in Episode IX remains to be seen, but first up for this true genre icon will be an appearance in The Last Jedi this December. After that, Episode IX will hit the big screen in May 2019.
