Movie News: New Screenwriter Takes THE STAND...

Movie News

It's been a while since we've heard any movement on the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Stephen King's THE STAND, but seems the project has been moving along quite nicely under the watchful eye of director Ben Affleck.

A new writer has been announced today, with Warner Bros. tasking David Kajganich to pen the apocalyptic tale. Ok, so it's a name few (if any) of us are familiar with, but it's reported that Kajganich blew the producers away with his most recent script - an adaptation of another King property, IT (due next year, with added Pennywise no doubt).

Kajganich was also responsible for 2007's snore-fest THE INVASION, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. It sounds like he's improved a hell of a lot since if Warner Bros. are to be believed!

We'll have more on THE STAND as it develops...

This is good news... although turning The Stand into a movie is unlikely to work effectively given the material's length. Still, if Kajganich has done such a good job with IT, then maybe there's hope. Watching this one with interest...
