Ahead of Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant hitting cinemas May 19th, the legendary director has seemingly suggested he has plans for four more Alien movies.

Previously, Covenant, itself a sequel to Prometheus and a prequel to Alien, was said to be the first of three films that will ultimately get us to where things start off at the beginning of Scott’s iconic 1979 movie. Now, though, the director apparently has plans for Covenant to be the first of five further movies. As well as that, Scott may have just revealed the title of the next film in the series – which will actually sit between Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. Still with us? We hope so.

Speaking to Fandango, Ridley explained, “There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of Alien. It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant… fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way… If this is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more.”

That seems to suggest there’s plans for four more pictures should Alien: Covenant prove to be the hit we’re all hoping it will be, and it also suggests that the current plan for the next movie is to call it Alien: Awakening and for it to be set between the events of Prometheus and Covenant. Of course, this could be merely a misinterpretation of Scott’s words or, as is often the case with Ridley, he could well be giving new details away way before anyone had expected.

Regardless, before any of this comes the aforementioned Alien: Covenant, which is officially described as:

Alien: Covenant offers a new chapter in the groundbreaking Alien franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world – whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

Covenant stars Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollet, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby, and James Franco.
