Matthew Vaughn Wanted for MAN OF STEEL 2

Movie News

With Warner Brothers now looking to move ahead with a Man of Steel sequel, a new story has surfaced on just who The WB may be considering to direct the follow-up to Zack Snyder’s 2013 movie.

As per Collider, the top of the pile for Warners when it comes to director options is Matthew Vaughn, best known to genre fans for the excellent X-Men: First Class, the bombastic Kick-Ass, and the fantastic Kingsman: The Secret Service. Now while we’ve certainly been left disappointed by the two cinematic outings for Henry Cavill’s Big Blue Boy Scout so far, throwing Vaughn’s name into the mix is definitely one way to pique our interest.

According to the outlet, early talks have taken place between Vaughn and Warner Brothers, although we’re still a long way away from any deal being agreed. Regardless, Matthew Vaughn is the top choice for Man of Steel 2, and so impressed with his work are Warners that they want Vaughn to helm a future DCEU effort if for some reason he can’t commit to the Man of Steel sequel.

One other positive we can take from this dates back to Man of Steel itself. Before Zack Snyder was given the nod for that film, with Christopher Nolan and David Goyer overseeing the story and tone, Vaughn and Mark Miller pitched an idea to Warners on what they’d bring to the table for a Superman movie. Vaughn has since talked about how he had brief discussions with the studio, although ultimately nothing came of that. In the aftermath of that, he did, however, give an idea of what he had in mind for Supes, saying, “I think that’s the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious The Dark Knight version. Superman is about colour and fun, or it should be, for me.” Colour and fun? Superman? Crazy concept, right? Those comments are a few years old now, so who knows what Vaughn’s thoughts are these days.

Warner Brothers has yet to give Man of Steel 2 an official release date at this stage, but Cavill’s Superman will be present later this year when Zack Snyder’s Justice League makes it way to cinemas in November.

As ever, expect more on all of this as and when it develops.
