Movie News

While Hugh Jackman’s time as Wolverine is coming to an end next month with Logan, it’s still full steam ahead for the greater X-Men movie franchise. And now comes some news on who may well be directing the next cinematic outing for Xavier’s mutants.

Collider is reporting that the current choice to helm the follow-up to X-Men: Apocalypse is actually Simon Kinberg. For those well-versed in the franchise, you’ll know that Kinberg has been involved in the series as a writer and producer as far back as 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. If he does indeed helm this next picture – tentatively titled X-Men: Supernova – it would mark the feature film directorial debut of Kinberg, who would also serve as writer on the film.

It was only last week that Sophie Turner, the latest incarnation of Jean Grey, revealed that the plan is for the next X-Men movie to start shooting later this year, and plot-wise it’s believed that the film will be set in the ‘90s and will centre around the fan favourite Dark Phoenix Saga.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
