Frank Grillo to Star in THE RAID Remake

Movie News

Well, well, well. Barely a week goes by without news of a remake, reboot, reimagining, redo or whatever other term is the latest fad, and now comes some solid news on the oft-discussed redo of Gareth Evans’ phenomenal The Raid.

Evans’ 2011 movie was a brutal, brilliant thrillride and quickly became a favourite of many, and in turn it was followed up by a 2014 sequel. Now the remake has taken some big steps forward, though, for it has brought in a director and star.

XYZ broke the news, with them confirming that Joe Carnahan will be directing and Frank Grillo will star. And if you ask us, they’re some fantastic choices to bring on board for the reimagining.

Joe Carnahan has won a whole load of fans for his work on the likes of Narc, Smokin’ Aces, The A-Team and The Grey, while Frank Grillo has become a huge favourite of action fans for his turns as Crossbones in the Captain America movies and for taking the lead in the last two Purge pictures. Simply put, Carnahan knows how to do action right, and Grillo is the perfect choice to be leading the charge and cracking skulls.

In addition to this, Gareth Evans is developing a third movie in his original Raid franchise. That means a whole lot of feet and fists to faces to come in the future, and we’re most definitely cool with that.

For those not familiar with The Raid, the 2011 movie starred Iko Uwais and focussed on a S.W.A.T. team that becomes trapped in a building full of mobsters and no-good bad guys. The film is rightly heralded as one of the greatest action movies of recent times, and it’s 2014 follow-up did that most rare of things – equaled, if not bettered, its much-loved predecessor.

As ever, expect more on all of this as it develops.
