Director Antoine Fuqua Leaves SCARFACE Remake

Movie News

Remember how Scarface is getting another remake? Well that redo has now lost its director.

As per Variety, director Antoine Fuqua has had to depart the project seemingly down to Sony being keen to move forward ASAP on a sequel to Fuqua’s Denzel Washington-starring The Equalizer. Fuqua has invested a lot of time in the screenplay for this sequel, and so he ultimately didn’t want to leave behind a project that he’s well invested in.

On the more positive side for Scarface, though, it appears that the remake has found its headliner, with Variety also adding that Rogue One’s Diego Luna is set to star in the redo.

Scarface was originally a 1932 movie from Howard Hawks, telling the story of an Irish immigrant rising to power in Chicago’s gangster-driven landscape. In 1983, of course, Al Pacino famously starred in Brian De Palma’s Scarface, taking the original tale and changing it up for a 1980s Miami setting and focussing on a Cuban refugee.

Expect to hear more on this latest Scarface remake as and when we get it.
