David Cronenberg's EASTERN PROMISES is Getting a Sequel

Movie News

David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises is a favourite of many of us here at Moonbase Alpha, and now the long-mooted sequel is officially happening.

Cronenberg had previously said how the follow-up to his 2007 Viggo Mortensen-starrer was dead in the water, but now it’s seemingly all systems go where a sequel is concerned. At present, the sequel appears to be titled Body Cross, with shooting due to start in London in March.

Casting site My Entertainment World has some brief details on the film, with the initial word describing the sequel’s plot as following “the incompetent underboss Kirill thinking that he and his henchman driver Nikolai really have inherited the throne from his crime-lord father.” In a twist, though, it adds that “Nikolai is actually a clandestine agent working undercover in Russia’s federal security service.”

Steven Knight, who wrote the original movie’s screenplay, revealed back in 2014 that he already had a sequel written. There’s no confirmation on whether that will indeed be the script used for Body Cross, although it seems likely, and there’s no word yet on whether David Cronenberg will be back to direct.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
