Movie News

After much speculation, it’s now been confirmed that Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio will be reteaming for an adaptation of Erik Larson’s The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America. Short title, right?

The legendary Scorsese revealed the news to Sun Media, explaining, “Right now, there’s a script being worked on. One of the things that I had to stop for the past six months was my meetings on that script. They wanted me to start again in January and see if we can find a way because it’s an extraordinary story.”

DiCaprio actually purchased the movie rights to the book back in 2010, and this would mark the sixth time that Scorsese has directed the actor in a feature film, with them having worked together previously on Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island and The Wolf of Wall Street. They also teamed for 2015’s short, The Audition.

The Devil in the White City is set in 1983 and tells the tale of Daniel H. Burnham and H.H. Holmes. Burnham is an architect and designer who created the 1893 World’s Fair, whereas Holmes is a charismatic doctor who also specialises in murder and working as a con artist. It’s believed that DiCaprio will be playing H.H. Holmes, who racked up a rumoured 200 murders at his elaborate Murder Castle.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
