With production due to start early next year in Melbourne, Australia, Leigh Whannell’s Stem has brought in Logan Marshall-Green as its lead.

Marshall-Green, who will be seen as a to-be-revealed villain in July’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, is likely best known to genre fans for Prometheus and The Invitation. As for Whannell, he’ll be writing and directing Stem, which marks his second feature film directing gig following debuting in the director’s chair for Insidious 3. Before that, Whannell created the Saw and Insidious franchises with James Wan, not to mention writing the likes of Cooties and Dead Silence.

From what information is out there so far, Stem will be set in a near-future in which technology rules the day, controlling most aspects of life. Marshall-Green will play a technophobe who’s out to avenge his wife’s murder and his own paralysis-causing injury. To help him in his quest, he uses an experimental computer chip known as Stem.
