The man who seems to be everywhere right now, Benedict Cumberbatch, has been cast in JJ Abrams' upcoming STAR TREK sequel along with DOCTOR WHO's Noel Clarke (who is no slouch in the directing department either having made KIDULTHOOD and ADULTHOOD).

Cumberbatch has apparently claimed the villain role they were auditioning Latin American types for. So who the hell is the villain now? Call me crazy but when you think Khan, you don’t think Cumberbatch. No word on who Clarke is playing other than he's “a family man with a young wife and daughter”.
The cast also includes Peter Weller, Alice Eve and all the crew from the great 2009 film. Production is scheduled to begin shortly for a May 2013 release. Cumberbatch can currently be seen in the awesome SHERLOCK BBC TV series as well as Spielberg’s WAR HORSE. He will also appear late 2012 in Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT.
