Movie News

In some good news for fans of the Millennium series of novels and movies, you’ll be pleased to know that the next entry in the franchise is close to landing a director.

It’s being widely reported that Sony Pictures has identified Fede Alvarez as the man who they want to helm the upcoming The Girl in the Spider’s Web. Alvarez is best known to genre fans for helming the Evil Dead remake and for this year’s impressive Don’t Breathe.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web is based on the novel of the same name from David Lagercrantz, who took over the Millennium series following the death of original author Stieg Larsson back in 2004. Larsson famously wrote The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, the final two of which were published after his death. The trilogy was turned into a movie trilogy starring Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace, and an English language movie trilogy then followed with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara as the headliners.

Sony snapped up the rights to The Girl in the Spider’s Web last year, and it’s already confirmed that Rooney Mara will be returning for this movie adaptation. The current plan is to fast-track the film for a release next year.
