Earlier this year came word that Steppenwolf was to be the villain of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Well not only has that now been confirmed, but The Wrap is reporting that Ciaran Hinds will be playing the character.

The Game of Thrones, Munich, Road to Perdition and There Will Be Blood actor will be playing the ‘big bad’ of Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice follow-up. In fact, a deleted scene from Batman v Superman saw Steppenwolf appear, although the rogue’s appearance in Justice League will be different to what was seen in BvS and he will be a performance capture character.

In comic book lore, Steppenwolf is one of the New Gods, the uncle of Darkseid, and the leader of Darkseid’s Apokolips army. A creation of the iconic Jack Kirby, the villain debuted back in 1972’s New Gods #7.

The official synopsis on Justice League reads:

Fueled by the hero’s restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Justice League sees Bruce Wayne enlist the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes – Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash – it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

With Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Ezra Miller as The Flash, J.K. Simmons as Jim Gordon, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Amber Heard as Aquaman’s wife, Mera, and Willem Dafoe as Atlantean Vulko, Justice League is currently set for a November 10th, 2017 release.
