Director Tim Miller Departs DEADPOOL 2

Movie News

For Deadpool fans, all has been looking rosy since Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth headlined his own movie earlier this year. Not only did that film prove to be a roaring success with fans and critics alike, but a sequel was instantly announced. Even better, said sequel was to see the reuniting of Reynolds, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and director Tim Miller. Well this past weekend has seen some bad news come out on Deadpool 2…

As reported by Deadline, director Miller has unfortunately departed the project. The reason for this is reportedly down to creative differences between Miller and Reynolds, with the Deadpool star also serving as a producer on the sequel (as he did on this year’s movie) alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg. Seeing a director leave a feature over creative differences would usually cause some concern amongst fans, especially when that director had helmed such an impressive original, but the fact that Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick had spent nearly a decade trying to get a solo Deadpool movie greenlit means that losing Miller isn’t as big a blow as it could be were those three not still involved. Additionally, it appears that the split between Tim Miller and 20th Century Fox is certainly an amicable one, for the director will now be helming an adaptation of David Suarez’s Influx for the studio. Still, it’s a shame that Miller won’t be back to oversee a sequel to his film that took home an impressive $782 million from a budget of just $58 million.

So far, all that we know on Deadpool 2 is that it will see Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson joined in action by Cable and Domino, two comic book fan favourite mutants. The plan was for the sequel to start shooting early next year, although that may be delayed depending on how quickly 20th Century Fox can find a replacement for Tim Miller.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
