Yesterday we brought word that Disney was looking to cast a young Lando Calrissian for their upcoming Han Solo-centric movie, and now comes some details on who the current frontrunner for the Lando gig is.

According to Birth.Movies.Death, the current top choice to play Calrissian is Community’s Donald Glover. It’s not known at this stage whether Glover has actually been offered the role yet or if he’s even met with the House of Mouse to discuss the part, but it’s believed that he’s the clear #1 target to play the younger version of a character made famous by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Glover is certainly one of the hottest young names in Hollywood these days, with him previously rumoured to be playing Miles Morales in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it was announced that they MCU was to introduce Spider-Man. At that point in time, certain reports claimed that it would actually be the Morales version of Spidey who would be introduced rather than the classic Peter Parker version of the Wallcrawler. Of course, Tom Holland would indeed end up as the Parker version of ol’ Webhead… but still, Glover has landed a mystery role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, with some fans still speculating that he will be revealed to be Miles Morales at some point.

If Glover does end up landing the Lando role, he’ll join Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo who will lead Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Solo-driven movie. The film will look at just how Han came to be the scruffy-looking nerf-herder we were introduced to in Mos Eisley back in 1977.

The still-untitled Han Solo movie is currently set for a May 25th, 2018 release, sandwiching the release between Rian Johnson’s Episode XIII and Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
