Antoine Fuqua Wanted to Direct SCARFACE Remake

Movie News

It’s being reported that Universal Pictures is lining up Antoine Fuqua to helm their upcoming redo of Scarface. And yes, in case you weren’t aware, there’s a remake of Scarface on the way.

Deadline is reporting that Fuqua, best known for the likes of Training Day, Southpaw, The Equalizer, Olympus Has Fallen and next month’s The Magnificent Seven, is the new frontrunner to direct Scarface, with him following in the footsteps of Harry Potter’s David Yates and No’s Pablo Larrain in being in the frame for the gig.

Scarface was originally a 1932 movie from Howard Hawks, telling the story of an Irish immigrant rising to power in Chicago’s gangster-driven landscape. In 1983, of course, Al Pacino famously starred in Brian De Palma’s Scarface, taking the original tale and changing it up for a 1980s Miami setting and focussing on a Cuban refugee.

Straight Outta Compton’s Jonathan Herman has penned the most recent screenplay for this new take on an old favourite.

As ever, expect more on this Scarface redo as it develops.
