Movie News

Following the earlier first look at Sofia Boutella as Universal’s new take on The Mummy, now comes some new news on the studio’s latest redo of Frankenstein.

Variety has word that Universal is looking to get Javier Bardem on board to play Victor Frankenstein’s famed monster. The Academy Award winning No Country for Old Men actor (and one-time Bond villain) is said to be in talks for the gig, although he’s not signed on just yet.

As for when we may see the new take on this classic monster, there’s some speculation that he may even turn up as soon as Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy next June. That film will launch a new shared monster realm for Universal, with further films to follow that feature the likes of Frankenstein, the Wolfman, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In fact, Russell Crowe is believed to be in talks to turn up as Jekyll/Hyde in a cameo role in The Mummy.

The Mummy will arrive on June 9th, 2017, with further mystery monster movies confirmed for April 13th, 2018 and February 15th, 2019. It’s believed that the first Frankenstein-driven movie will actually be Bride of Frankenstein, which the studio want Angelina Jolie to star in and direct. Johnny Depp is someone who is already signed up for a role in this new universe, with him set to play the Invisible Man. In addition to this, recent reports also claim that the studio is looking to get Dwayne Johnson on board to play the Wolfman.

Expect more on all of this as and when it develops.
