With Warner Brothers seemingly considering bringing any and all DC heroes and villains to the big screen these days, could Nicolas Winding Refn helm a Batgirl feature? If the director has anything to do with it, then yes.

Before Patty Jenkins got the gig, Refn previously threw his hat into the ring to direct Wonder Woman. Speaking to Business Insider, though, the director has revealed that he now has his eyes on Batgirl.

Refn explained, “God, I would love to make one [a superhero movie], it would probably be great fun. I just don’t know when it’s going to happen. I very much enjoy my freedom creatively, but I also would love to make one of those big Hollywood films that casts a lot of money and has a lot of people running around with cell phones and all that insanity.”

When pushed on which character stands out to him, he said, “I want to make Batgirl. Let’s get Warners working on it.”

This, of course, comes hot on the heels of the Drive helmer having worked on his first female-led film, The Neon Demon.

In terms of Warner Brothers’ DC Cinematic Universe, current plans call for solo films for Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Ezra Miller’s Flash, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg, and then ensemble efforts in the shape of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and Green Lantern Corps., not to mention an already-confirmed all-female DC movie to be headlined by Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, plus rumours of solo efforts for the likes of Booster Gold and Black Canary.

Given how many DC characters are due to grace the silver screen over the next few years, could Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl (or another incarnation of the heroine, for that point) be someone who The WB would consider for her own film?

As ever, expect more on this if and when anything further develops.
