Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange is on the way later this year, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to follow next year, and now the official synopsis has been revealed for both upcoming MCU efforts.

The official word on Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange reads:

Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Released on November 4th, Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular Sorcerer Supreme, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, Benedict Wong as Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West, an unknown villain role for Mads Mikkelsen, and unknown roles for Scott Adkins, Amy Landecker, and Rachel McAdams.

Moving over to James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, and the official synopsis for that film reads:

Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favourite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand.

Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will star Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel as Groot, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Pom Klmentieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Her, and unknown roles for Chris Sullivan, Sylvester Stallone and the iconic Kurt Russell.
