Movie News

After seeing his stock rise immeasurably with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, John Boyega has now signed up for another sci-fi adventure.

Legendary Pictures has officially landed the talented Brit to take the lead in Pacific Rim 2. Boyega will be playing the son of Idris Elba’s character from the first movie.

On this news, Legendary’s Mary Parent said, “It is undeniable that with all his talent and natural charm, John stands out amongst today’s generation of young leading men.”

Whilst Guillermo del Toro, director of Pacific Rim, won’t be helming this sequel, he will be on board as a producer. On Boyega’s addition, del Toro enthused, “I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantasy sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.”

Pacific Rim 2 is to be directed by Steven S. DeKnight and is currently targeting a late 2016 start date.
