Director Sam Mendes Done with the BOND Franchise

Whilst Daniel Craig’s Bond future has been a major talking point over the last few months, now comes word that director Sam Mendes is done with the franchise.

Speaking at Wales’ Hay Festival, Mendes said, “It was an incredible adventure, I loved every second of it, but I think it’s time for somebody else.”

Mendes has helmed two 007 outings, 2012’s Skyfall and last year’s SPECTRE. Those films grossed a combined $2 billion at the global box office, and it was largely believed that the director would be on board for at least one more Bond entry.

Of course, this only adds further fuel to the fire where Craig’s seemingly-imminent departure is concerned. For all accounts and purposes, the actor is done with the franchise after having headlined four movies, although there’s yet to be an official statement on Craig’s departure from the series.

Despite names like Idris Elba and Jamie Bell regularly being touted to take over from Craig as Britain’s greatest spy, bookies have stopped taking any further bets on Tom Hiddleston being the next Bond. Whoever it is that takes over from Craig, we now know that Sam Mendes definitely won’t be directing them.
