Movie News

Whilst we know that a Captain Marvel movie is part of Marvel Studios’ upcoming slate, all’s quiet on pretty much everything else about the film. Well, today brings some interesting rumours on who may be helming the film and just who may be starring as the titular Carol Danvers.

Firstly, We Got This Covered is reporting that Elizabeth Wood has met with Marvel execs to discuss directing the film. Last week, it was believed that Wood had met with Marvel about something, and now that something is being reported as being Captain Marvel. The indie director wowed Sundance audiences earlier this year with White Girl, the story of a college going enjoy a wild and frantic summer in New York.

As for the lead role of the film, various outlets are reporting that Chloe Grace Moretz could be in the frame for the gig. Given that part of the basis for this story is that the actress was spotted on the cover of Glamour wearing a jacket similar to Carol Danvers, mark this one as merely a rumour for now. Of course, Moretz sprang to fame for playing Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2, and she then went on to star in genre efforts such as Let Me In, Dark Shadows, the Carrie remake, the redo of The Equalizer, and The Muppets. The 19-year-old can also be seen in Bad Neighbours 2 and is signed on for the lead role in the new take on The Little Mermaid. Additionally, she’s also gone on record as saying that she’s keen to see a strong female lead a superhero movie, and Captain Marvel certainly fits into that bracket. As we said, though, mark this one down as pure speculation right now, with Moretz joining the likes of Katee Sackhoff and Ronda Rousey as being linked to the Danvers gig.

At present, Captain Marvel is set for a March 2019 release, although Carol Danvers herself is expected to debut in May 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War Part 1.
