With the dust now settling on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there’s finally confirmation that Ben Affleck will indeed be handling a solo Batman movie.

For months now, we’ve heard how Affleck was penning a Batman script with DC’s Geoff Johns, and CinemaCon 2016 saw it announced by Warner Brothers CEO Kevin Tsujihara that the Argo star-cum-director will be starring in and directing a standalone outing for the Caped Crusader.

Despite the massively mixed opinions on Batman v Superman – you can find our review here - most fans and critics have all agreed that Affleck’s Dark Knight was mightily impressive. Since last summer, he's been tinkering on a Bat-centric script along with the ever-brilliant Johns, and now we’ve finally got confirmation that he’s going all-in on this currently-untitled Bat movie. At one point over the last few months, it was suggested that the film could be titled simply The Batman, although that’s still just speculation at this stage.

As for Affleck’s directing career, he’s pretty much hit a homerun with everything he’s helmed, from the stunning Gone Baby Gone, to the frantic The Town, and then to the highly-acclaimed Argo.

No release date or plot details have been divulged at this stage on this new Batman movie, but it will feature J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, a role he’ll debut in Zack Snyder’s Justice League: Part One, which is currently shooting in London ahead of a November 2017 release.

Before that, Affleck’s World’s Greatest Detective will have a brief part to play in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, which hits UK cinemas on August 5th.
