Despite Marvel’s Netflix-exclusive shows being set within the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, it appears as if Alfre Woodard is taking on two different roles in this realm.

Woodard has long been confirmed to play Mariah Dillard in Marvel’s Luke Cage, a show that will debut on Netflix later this year, but now the actress has also been revealed to have a part in this month’s Captain America: Civil War.

Initial reports suggested that Woodard would be making an appearance as Dillard in Civil War, although Screen Crush is reporting that she’ll indeed by playing a completely different character in the next MCU offering. In fact, the outlet claims that Woodard will be playing “the mother of an American citizen who was killed during the Battle of Sokovia in Age of Ultron.” As such, her character, who is supposedly introduced early on in Civil War, will unload an angry rant on Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. Said rant will play a part in Stark deciding to support the introduction of laws and governance for controlling he and his fellow heroes.

As for Alfre Woodard’s role in the Mike Colter-starring Marvel’s Luke Cage, Mariah Dillard is set to be one of the big bads of the show, a cutthroat local politician who is the cousin of the villainous Cottonmouth.

Captain America: Civil War will hit UK screens on April 29th, whilst Marvel’s Luke Cage has been confirmed to land on Netflix on September 30th.
