Hans Zimmer Retires From Superhero Movies

With his score currently pounding over Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, composer Hans Zimmer has announced that he’s retiring from the superhero gig.

The 58-year-old German broke the news to the BBC, explaining, “I did Batman Begins with Chris [Nolan] 12 years ago, so The Dark Knight Trilogy might be three movies to you, to me it was 11 years of my life.”

On Batman v Superman, he added, “This one was very hard for me to do, to try to find new language.” His work on BvS, however, saw Junkie XL also involved in the music for that movie, which looks like it could’ve affected the composer’s experience. After all, Zimmer was initially against returning to do Batman v Superman in the first place.

As well as his work on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zimmer’s superhero work also includes Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Regardless of the hugely mixed response to Batman v Superman, one thing we can all agree on: Hans Zimmer's score is certainly something special.

Up next for Zimmer is providing the score for Ron Howard’s Inferno and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.
