Movie News

After last week finally brought some confirmation that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey were on board Nikolaj Arcel’s big screen adaptation of Stephan King’s The Dark Tower, there’s now some news to say that the film’s release date has been pushed back.

Initially planned for January 13th, 2017, The Dark Tower will instead be released on February 17th, 2017, pushing the film back by just over a month. This will see the movie open alongside Maze Runner: The Death Cure and The Great Wall.

In the adaptation, Elba will be playing Roland Deschain/The Gunslinger and McConaughey will be playing Randall Flagg/The Man in Black. Shooting will start in South Africa in just six weeks’ time.

The basic premise of King’s The Dark Tower, which encompasses eight novels and even ties-in with other books, follows The Gunslinger on his quest towards a mysterious tower in a world gone to hell. As well as a big screen movie, there’s also a tie-in TV series in development as well.
