Movie News

After being off and on for years now, it looks as if a big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is finally happening, and the project is now close to bringing in a female lead.

Deadline reports that Mad Max: Fury Road’s Abbey Lee is in talks to play the female lead of the film, Tirana. Now in King’s actual work, the role of Tirana is a relatively small one, but the outlet is reporting that the role will be an expanded one where the movie adaptation is concerned.

At present, The Dark Tower is set to star Idris Elba as Roland Deschain/The Gunslinger and Matthew McConaughey as Randall Flag/The Man in Black, although an official announcement on these castings has yet to surface just yet. The basic premise of King’s The Dark Tower, which encompasses eight novels and even ties-in with other books, follows The Gunslinger on his quest towards a mysterious tower in a world gone to hell. As well as a big screen movie, there’s also a tie-in TV series in development as well.

A Royal Affair’s Nikolaj Arcel will be directing this adaptation from a script put in place by The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s Jeff Pinkner and Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman. The screenplay is believed to be based largely on the first book in the eight-book Dark Tower series. Additionally, there’s also a tie-in TV series in development as well.

At present, The Dark Tower is set to hit cinemas on January 13th, 2017.
