LABYRINTH Getting Remade

Movie News

Less than a fortnight after David Bowie’s sad passing, and the singer-turned-actor’s most beloved film is to get the remake treatment. Yes, we’re talking about Labyrinth.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Jim Henson’s 1986 movie is getting rebooted for a new audience. TriStar and The Jim Henson Co. have come to an agreement to develop the film, with Guardians of the Galaxy’s Nicole Perlman already on board to pen the screenplay. Lisa Henson will produce along with TriStar’s Nicole Brown.

Starring Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, Labyrinth focussed on a teenager who has to navigate a magical, bonkers, fantastical maze in order to save her baby brother from the clutches of Jareth the Goblin King. At the time flopping at the box office – it took home a mere $12 million from a $25 million budget – the film has since gone on to become a cult classic and favourite of many. So poorly-received was Labyrinth on its release, though, that it marked the last directorial effort for the legendary Jim Henson.

As ever, expect more on all of this as it develops.
