Juan Antonio Bayona Eyed to Direct JURASSIC WORLD Sequel

Following on from a story we reported on last week, it looks as if Juan Antonio Bayona could very well helm Universal’s Jurassic World sequel.

The director was originally sought after to replace Colin Trevorrow for the next Jurassic effort after Trevorrow signed on to helm Star Wars: Episode IX, but Bayona had to rule himself out due to commitments to World War Z 2. Of course, last week saw Bayona depart the World War Z sequel… essentially freeing him up to take another look at the Jurassic World follow-up.

Deadline is now reporting that Universal is again considering Bayona, best known for The Orphanage and The Impossible, for the Jurassic gig. A screenplay is already in place for the film, with Trevorrow having penned the script with Derek Connolly, and so a director is needed for things to fully start moving forward.

Last year’s Jurassic World grossed a whopping $1.6 billion, and a sequel is currently penciled in for a June 22nd, 2018 release.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
