George Miller WILL Direct More MAD MAX Movies

Err, right… let’s get this straight. After Mad Max: Fury Road arrived last year, director George Miller talked about how he had plans for at least two further movies continuing the tale of Max Rockatansky. Then earlier this week saw an interview surface where Miller ruled himself out of helming any further Mad Max movies, instead suggesting that maybe another director could take a stab at his most famous creation. And now the director has confirmed that he will be directing further Max outings.

Speaking to The Wrap after Fury Road received ten Oscar nominations, Miller moved to clarify his previously-reported comments, saying, “That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review. She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another Mad Max movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another Mad Max. It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.”

On what his next project could be, Miller previously revealed that he’s looking at a small, contemporary film that he can “get through fairly quickly”.

So there we have it, George Miller will seemingly be helming two further Mad Max movies. Previously the title for the Fury Road sequel was set to be Mad Max: The Wasteland, with another movie to focus on Charlize Theron’s Furiosa. It’s now being reported that Furiosa will not play a major role in the immediate future of the series, and that The Wasteland may even get rejigged as a subtitle for the next movie.
