Huge Potential Spoilers for CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

With 2015 nearly in the bag, 2016 is shaping up to be a huge one for genre fans. On the superhero front, we’ve got Dark Knights, Men of Steel, Mercs with Mouths, Masters of Mystical Arts, Schools for Gifted Children, and, of course, flat out Civil War. Where the next Captain America outing is concerned, there’s some potential spoilers been revealed on what to expect when that film hits in May. As ever, you’ve been warned, so stop reading now if you want to avoid certain spoilers.

It goes without saying that this is far from confirmed by anyone official, but That Hashtag Show is reporting that we’ll be getting a new Captain America by the time that Captain America: Civil War comes to an end.

First up, the film will open with the funeral of Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter. That won’t the lowest point for Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, though, for after having to fight some of his fellow Avengers, the Russo Brothers’ film will follow the comic book Civil War and actually kill off Rogers. To keep fans guessing, three different endings have been filmed for the film; one that sees Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes taking on the mantle of Captain America; one that sees Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson become the new Cap; and one that sees Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter pick up the iconic shield and take over from Steve Rogers.

Of course, we reported months ago that Rogers was likely to bite the bullet during Civil War. After all, Evans himself confirmed that Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 is currently scheduled to be the last film of his present Marvel deal. The actor has a six-film deal (which doesn’t include his uber-brief cameo in Thor: The Dark World), and Captain America: Civil War will mark the fifth movie of this contract. So with only one film of his deal left post-Civil War, and with Infinity War Part 2 the last film of his deal, that suggested a Steve Rogers-shaped hole for Infinity War Part 1. And what better way to make a Steve Rogers-shaped hole than to kill him off for a little while before he then makes a triumphant return to help save the day in Infinity War Part 2. It’s worth noting, however, that Chris Evans has gone on record to say how he’s definitely open to extending his Marvel deal for as long as they want him.

Like we said, treat this as purely rumour for now, although it certainly does all make a lot of sense.

To be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America: Civil War is currently set for a May 6th release.

At last! Three films in and finally Marvel start killing off Captain America. They've really done the character justice but his frequent deaths nd resurrections have been a major missing element in an otherwise wonderful movie series. Let us hope this is the first of many ludicrously convoluted demises for the good Captain.
