Movie News

With Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens hitting cinemas in literally a matter of weeks, some news has come out today on who could be set to take the lead in the upcoming Han Solo Anthology movie.

The Solo spin-off will focus on a young Han and will be directed by The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and Heat Vision reports that Lucasfilm and Disney are starting to move forward with casting the role of the young Solo.

It’s believed that casting director Jeanne McCarthy has looked at over 2,500 actors so far, with auditions reported to have taken place for the likes of Kick-Ass’ Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Fantastic Four’s Miles Teller, 21 Jump Street’s Dave Franco, Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek, and Weeds’ Hunter Parish.

Additionally, actors who have either read for the role or sent in a tape include The Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs, Kickin’ It’s Leo Howard, The Fault in Our Stars’ Ansel Elgort, Jurassic World’s Nick Robinson, Transformers: Age of Extinction’s Jack Reynor, Fury’s Logan Lerman, Hemlock Grove’s Landon Liboiron, and The Purge’s Tony Oller. Other names who are believed to be under consideration are Arrow’s Colton Haynes, Bates Motel’s Max Thieriot, Harry Potter’s Tom Felton, Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick, and Galavant’s Joshua Sasse.

So, that’s a lot of names in the frame, and certainly some interesting prospects. To us, Bates Motel’s Max Thieriot could be a great dark horse shout for the gig, whilst Chandler Riggs, better known as The Walking Dead’s Carrrrrrrrl, could be an interesting choice given how he’s made massive strides as an actor over the last few years.

Production on this Han Solo Anthology movie is set to start in January 2017, and the film itself will tell the tale of how the young Solo become the scoundrel who we first see at Mos Eisley in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The movie is currently planned for a May 25th, 2018 release.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops, but in the meantime be sure to take to the comments section to let us know who you’d like to play one of the most iconic characters in all of cinema.
