You can probably thank the success of SHERLOCK HOLMES recent renaissance for this. Universal has picked up a spec script by Jonny Gordon which revolves around Leonardo Da Vinci caught up in an action packed adventure as he quests to stop Europe sliding back into the dark ages just as the modern age is kicking in. The film will be produced by Larry and Charles Gordon who have an impressive producing record including WATCHMEN and DIE HARD.

No word on what has happened to Warner Bros Da Vinci project LEONARDO DA VINCI AND THE SOLDIERS OF FOREVER which had much buzz around it some time ago. This reportedly revolved around Da Vinci being a member of some kind of demon hunting organisation.

It seems revisionist history could be the new Found Footage in terms of what we are likely to see coming out of Hollywood the next few years. ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER is on the way next summer from Timur Bekmembatov and PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES is churning away through development hell with what seems like the fifth director having just left the project. It’s not necessarily a bad thing as long as they keep Stephen Sommers far far away from this project.
