HE-MAN Redo Adds THOR: THE DARK WORLD Writer

Movie News

For a while now, there’s been rumblings of a new He-Man movie. After all had seemingly gone quiet, there’s news today that the film has brought in a new writer.

Titled Masters of the Universe, Variety is reporting that this cinematic relaunch for Adam of Eternia has added screenwriter Christopher Yost to its ranks. Yost is best known for helping to pen Thor: The Dark World and is also signed up to write the Thunder God’s next outing, Thor: Ragnarok.

This is the first we’ve heard on Masters of the Universe for a fair while, with the last real news being that Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow had written a draft earlier in the year. G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s Jon M. Chu was on board to direct at one point, although he departed the project at the end of last year. The film is currently without a director, but there was talk of Wadlow possibly helming the movie at one stage.

Initially a 1982 toy line, Masters of the Universe became its own cartoon series before we were given the 1987 Dolph Lundgren-starring live-action film. For those not familiar with He-Man and his chums, the basic premise of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe focussed on Prince Adam of Eternia, who by bellowing “By the power of Grayskull!” would transform into the warrior known as He-Man and battle against the evil might of Skeletor. The below video explains it better:

Masters of the Universe is being developed by Columbia Pictures, although no release date is yet on place.
